Overview

From graverobbers and a stolen bell to heroes of golf and soldier monks – the Old Kirk reveals her secrets of Prestwick's rich history on this heritage trail.

Local historians and experts talk about Prestwick, Scotland's oldest baronial burgh, over 1,000 years old. Focusing on the people and stories surrounding St Nicholas Old Kirk and Kirkyard, this audio tour will show you some of the people who made Prestwick the birthplace of Open golf.

Just as fascinating but more gruesome, we have superb surviving examples of the graverobbing industry. We also have tantalising tales of the town's links to Robert the Bruce and fighting monks in the Battle of Bannockburn.

Our thanks to Alex Young, Alasdair Malcolm and Suzie Lennox for narrating Prestwick Heritage Tour.
